Teacher's day

Jika hari ini seorang Perdana Menteri berkuasa,
Jika hari ini seorang Raja menaiki takhta
Jika hari ini seorang Presiden sebuah negara
Jika hari ini seorang ulama yang mulia
Jika hari ini seorang peguam menang bicara
Jika hari ini seorang penulis terkemuka
Sejarahnya dimulakan oleh seorang guru biasa
Dengan lembut sabarnya mengajar tulis-baca.
(Dipetik dari sajak GURU OH GURU karya Allahyarham Usman Awang)

If today a powerful prime minister
If today a king is crowned
If today a President of a nation
If today a noble Ulama'
If today a lawyer wins a trial
If today a prominent writer
The history is started by an ordinary teacher
with tenderness and patient teaching to write and to read

by the late Usman Awang 1979

I would like to wish Happy Teacher's Day , especially to Kak Zainab, Amirahsyuhada, Fizah and all teachers in Malaysia. We've met many teachers in our life journey some just pass by but some leave a mark in our life. I want to be the teacher who make a difference in my student's life, that is my dream.

I remember when I was in form three I had a BM teacher whom I really like. Pn Ena she is a teacher like no other and there is also another teacher Pn Norliza who teaches me math very soft spoken and pretty to.There is also Pn Ramlah, Pn Fatimah and in form two Pn Aminah my friend and I used to call her (mak penyu) turtle mother I can't remember why.

Then in form four I went to SMS Muar met many good teachers however It's hard to remember their names I don't know why. I remember in form five I always had an argument with my Bahasa Malaysia teacher and he even ask me to stand outside the classroom or was it another teacher hmm I don't remember.

I wish I there is a way for me to ask for forgiveness from all my teachers for all the wrongdoing I've done to them. I Ritalaily Ishak ex-student of SK Nong Chik (1978-1983),SK Sri Skudai (1984) SMRK Sri Skudai(1985-1987), SMS Muar(1988-1989) would like to ask for forgiveness from all my ex teachers, maafkan saya cikgu di atas semua kesalahan saya dan halalkan ilmu yang dicurahkan selama ini.

So what about you who do you remember right now?

  4. Hi Laily, couldn't help smiling read your this posting. Ooops, minta ma'af, I saw your ahemmm, very attractive profile pic over at Zaitgha and always a busybody drop by.
For me, my school days, I was every teacher's nightmare....the number of 20 cents exercise books I finished every month...and my mother thought I was studying hard doing my homework...I had to write, from 500 to 1000 lines, of, "I must not let go snakes or iguanas in class". I must not fight in school",
I must not come to school late", etc....aiyohhh, terok betul, fingers pun swollen la, ha ha.
We had a Malay chegu, a matured man, he had one front teeth missing, so the words he taught us always sounded like there's an 's', ha ha. We called him Chegu Batu Caves.
My best friends were two Malay boys and we sure had every teacher always keeping an eye on us.
We used to go to Ampang, KL, those days rubber estates and tin mines...catch 3 feet long grass snakes...and put under the wooden horse the Form 5 and 6 girls used for PE exercises...you should see them dive out the windows, screaming, the teacher in sarong or cheong sum climbing on to her table, how she did it still a mystery, ha ha.
Even hide iguanas in the girls bathrooms, ha ha...
and the three of us can win Academy awards for buat bodoh, who did it kind of innocent looks.
There was a movie about snakes showing at Cathay cinema in KL, a midnight show...we let loose a snake when the show started...Holy Smoke!
You should see the pandemonium, lights coming on, movie stopped, security guards running in looking for the snake, people standing on the seats, ha ha.
By the way, I took part in the opening of Merdeka Stadium wayyyy back in 1959, Malaya's 1st mass drill by thousands of students from various schools. and was at the stadium when MALAYA got its independence and Tunku Abdul Rahman cried out "MERDEKA"! 7 times. I too joined in. I was 15 years old.
Yes, Laily, I sure do remember my young school days...and to think my two rascal Malay friends later became CEO's as well ada title too, ha ha.
I bet a lot of grandmothers still remember finding snakes in their desk, bathrooms, iguanas under the wooden horse, ha ha.
    You keep well, Lee.
